Our past…

Acadian Fish Company opened for business on December 23, 1963, in Los Angeles, California, proudly founded by Harvey and Lucille Reynolds. Born in Huntington Park, CA, Harvey served in WWII and, after a brief farming experience, went to work for the Louisiana Fish Company in the early 1950s. Harvey eventually purchased the business and changed the name to Acadian Fish Company as a tribute to the area in Louisiana that supplied most of their product.
After Harvey’s passing in 1981, his two sons Jim and John took over the management of the business. They started to bring in farm-raised Catfish from Mississippi, which quickly grew in popularity. Before long, they were selling over 100,000 pounds of fresh Catfish a week. To accommodate this rise in demand, they moved to a larger facility at 1375 East 6th Street in Los Angeles.

As part of an expansion strategy, David Bell was brought on in 1990 as a management trainee. David went on to play a pivotal role in the company’s continued success, eventually purchasing a small percentage of the company in 2004. With an eye to the future, the company relocated in 2013 to 4488 Alcoa in Vernon, CA, where the company resides today. Jim retired in 2017, John had previously done so in 2007, leaving a lasting legacy of over 50 years of strong, proud Reynolds leadership at the Acadian Fish Company.

Our present…

Kindred entrepreneurial spirits fueled with the same customer-focused passion, David and his good friend Kent Hayden purchased the company in 2017. Kent was a valuable addition to the team with over 40 years of experience in the food industry. Together, David and Kent continue to build upon the company’s solid foundation, propelling the company forward.

Acadian Fish Company now directly imports containers of Shrimp, Swai, Tilapia, Octopus, Rock Cod, Crab, Oysters, and Scallops from around the world.
